Hey my wife and I just had a massage in HCMC and they were great. They charged $350,000VND!! No problem. Then before we paid they wanted us to rate the massage with a strongly suggested $300,000VND tip for each of us. Is this normal? We don’t mind tipping but that seems excessive. Can anyone explain? TIA

Tipping is always optional. It’s not right for them to demand a tip.
Tips are optional, no matter where u go. But if u are paying the same price as the tip. Seems alittle excessive
It depends. I went to a big spa in Thu Duc,well known. And afterwarts when I pay for the massage( was 270k for massage), they said minimum tip per person is 200k, so how much I want to tip!! I am Vietnamese, so this is not only tourists! Depends on the place and we never ask for the tip Police,only know it afterwarts when we want to pay and then it is too late🙄. We learn from it
No ! U dont have to pay tips if u don’t think they did a good job . No requirement. U can give them as much as u like .
No! Its not normal and illegal with Vietnamese government! In some state they will be fired and get penalty if the law enforcement knows their manipulative!!! Sorry for your bad experience but there are some people try to take advantage of foreigners travelers, specially at the airport they add for tip when they want you let them carry or pick up your language..I hate what they do

We do not tip in vietnam. We dont have that culture. Say no and of they keep asking, not letting you go, call police
I live in Australia and often travel back home to Vietnam, and I don’t feel like we really have a tipping culture there unless someone is just being generous. Tipping should be based on a percentage, and giving a 100% tip isn’t reasonable no matter what currency you use -unless you genuinely want to help someone out of kindness. It shouldn’t become something mandatory or expected.
Normal. If the masseuse only massaged you that day, she/he will only have made €10/$11 that day & you call that excessive!!
