Hey my wife and I just had a massage in HCMC and they were great. They charged $350,000VND!! No problem. Then before we paid they wanted us to rate the massage with a strongly suggested $300,000VND tip for each of us. Is this normal? We don’t mind tipping but that seems excessive. Can anyone explain? TIA

I’d tip for a good service, this compulsory tipping is very much an American culture, the Americans spent 20 years trying to force their culture on the Vietnamese and they didn’t want it so why should they want it now !

It happened to us too in Hanoi it’s not about being cheap is that it was never mentioned before and then you are given a piece of paper at the end to fill out where they demanded the tip. I understand what the poster is saying they should be told before there will also be a tip not after where they stand over you watching you fill out the paper. Besides tipping even in the western world is always based on how good the service given is. We walked in knowing the price given with money ready and then were asked with a piece of paper for 100% of the service price on top of it in tip. Also felt scammed because they were not up front from the start.
I hope you leave an honest review. They need to know that is not acceptable.
