Well … it’s simple. If you’re fat … you’re fat
Yes they will call you fat and you can not buy clothing anywhere. The earlier you come to grips with that the better your holiday will be.
I’m Vietnamese, living in Australia. I jokingly call my 7YO daughter “pig”, fatty or chubby” because she loves eating 😂. My 9YO on the other hand is really skinny, so I tease him and call him “stick” or “a skeleton.” I don’t mean anything bad by it, it’s just how I grew up.
A massage therapist is Nha Trang laughed at my boyfriend and asked him “why you so FAT!?” Before his massage. The ironic thing was that she’s wasn’t a typical thin Vietnam beauty by any means!
They can barely speak English, so you wouldn’t know hahha
I caught my guide sniggering at the amount we were eating. It’s generally a poor country so they eat smaller quantities but quite healthy. They are very blunt and open about these things but it’s done with a smile.
Oh, Vietnamese are warm but their mouth really has no filter. My vietnamese mother in-law and her sisters are like that. They will praise how beautiful you are at first but will run their mouth at your physical flaws. I am not fat, but still they always force me to lose weight.
They will say it straight to your face that you are fat, ugly, handicapped, dirty or something else…but thats it, no offend. Thats life there and many other countries around the world. Just cope with it and move on. They will call you “fat guy”, “handicapped guy” e.t.c… but dont take it personally.
Within the hour of getting to my grandmas/ Aunties house… they pulled out a scale (that was shaped like a little piggy) and weighed me. Not sure if they would do that to just anyone tho. I do know my mom has no shame in commenting on weight no matter who it is, to her big people are hilarious.
When you hear they say “mop” that means they’re talking about you. They do talk about people in their language 😂😂😂
