You probably won’t hear something directly or callouts.
Don’t be surprised if you’re steered toward larger sizes while shopping there. Even as a petite XS, I ended up buying Mediums and Larges. The local advice is usually, “Small is for Vietnamese people; you need a larger size.” It’s just a difference in regional scaling, so don’t take it to heart!
I’m Vietnamese American born in USA. I got tore up as a tween in Vietnam for being bigger. Still sticks with me til today at my big age. Got called pig, elephant and big foot from strangers in the streets and even charged double for a ride. I’m sure they’re a lot more kinder if you’re foreigner though. Maybe during those days they didn’t see enough tourist tk understand there’s different people and body types outside their usual norm.
They won’t tell it to your face. So don’t worry.
They will be talking in Vietnamese 🤷♂️
If you don’t understand the Vietnamese language you won’t be affected
Vietnamese people like to comment on body weight for fun, in your case it’s “mập/béo”. But it’s just for fun, they don’t intend to hurt you. The other way round also doesn’t help, I am “gầy quá”. Laugh a round with them and answer same way round…you will find new friends
Just go to Vietnam 🇻🇳 and have a wonderful time. Nevermind your size. From the videos that I have watched on Vietnam there’s all types of people and all sizes. Just go and enjoy. 🍁🇨🇦
