I was in Hoi An. I’m a bigger girl and didn’t experience this at all. I wanted to wear their cultural attire but nothing in the shop fit. It was just a polite cool, no worries and on I went with my day. Also did a photoshoot in Hoi An and it was lovely. No-one made me feel weird about my body at all! And if they gossiped in Vietnamese, that’s their business 🤭🤭
My husband tried to buy a shirt at the Con Market in DaNang. 😂 He’s 275 pounds. This is a 5X.
My Vietnamese friends have no filter. They are blunt but do not mean things rudely. They are dear friends & very kind. They even warned me not to take things wrong on my upcoming trip to Vietnam. They are blunt but mean no harm

My wife is Vietnamese and works in a nail salon. They talk to each other about clients all day – in Vietnamese. What’s even more amusing is they keep their head down as they speak- so you’d have no idea they might be talking about you. In general they are very polite people and wouldn’t tease you in any way.
If you have a belly they may rub it and call you lucky 😂 they did this to my husband, it’s a sign of good luck as this is what they do with the Buddha statues 🤭 my husband took it in good fun knowing they wasn’t being rude or disrespectful ☺️

I’m a big guy. While there a tour guide referred to me as happy Buda, it was a compliment. A Vietnamese lady told me that fat people are viewed as lucky, happy and wealthy.
