Reading all of these comments reminds me of when I taught in Japan, where I was definitely larger than any of my coworkers. One day one of them said “Kirsten, you are so big, but your … [motions to breast area] is so small!”

Lol just nod and move along. I’m Vietnamese, have a 23 BMI which is normal for westerners but is absolutely disgustingly fat for my culture, and yes I get annoyed when I go home. People see me and immediately scream: “OMG why are you so fking fat?? Did you eat your husband?” I just laugh and ask them how their worthless sons are doing. You need to have thick skin anywhere, but especially Vietnam. In a way, it helped me in corporate America a lot. When my boss screams at me and apologizes later, I just take it like it is nothing and tell him he can do 1000x worse and still wouldn’t be my mom’s easiest days. She was my first and biggest bully.

Was having a dress made in Hoi An. Staff were jovial and fun. I was sitting down looking at patterns when one lady came up behind me, grabbed my boobs and said “we will need more fabric” 😂😂.

If you’re Vietnamese, you should already know the answer. If you’re not, Vietnamese do not joke like this with people they do not know.

Vietnamese people are not used to see overweight people. They are the least overweight people in the world.
