If you don’t understand Vietnamese then do you care? Yes people will talk, the one you should worried about is the expat
If they say you are fat, they dont mean it in a mallisious way. They just state what they see and they don’t think they are being offensive but its not like you will get called out while walking down the street!
Can you walk on your own or we talking scooter riders?
They don’t do that to strangers; only to their own relatives and close friends. The part that confused me was when a fat guy called another fat guy fat. Duuudee!!
you’ll find that majority of the chubby people that you will see in Vietnam will be foreigners you might find one or two Vietnamese here and there but not to the ratio of the western people
Now a day, it seems more sensitive among Vietnamese society, not only outside the legion but within the country of Vietnam too, where this flirting is so common. If you feel offend about it, just let them know. In VN, your privacy like occupation, income, your appearance are the usual in first greeting meant how well you are.
If a Vietnamese person comments you are big and fat, you can smile and reply: I look like the Laughing Buddha — Phật Di Lặc — do I not? They know she is a symbol of joy and prosperity in many Vietnamese homes and altars Good luck with 😆❤😂.
Vietnamese look at body weight as wealth, expect a lot of attention but not in a bad way.
Yes they will call you fat to your face.
