Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? Just want to know what to expect and how to react.Thanks.Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? I agree that Vietnamese are friendly but no filter. A driver on the second day I hired him, asked me if I didn’t like men (just because I told him I had no children, when he asked about it) 🙂
You will hear :
People in VN are usually polite and will not make comments.
Việt people are skinny so anyone slightly overweight by Western standard will be considered obese by most Vietnamese. Most likely they will comment about ur weight, not having any size for u etc. Having said that none of the comments are mean spirited, we’re just used to commenting on your most noticable trait.
Your going to have trouble with the little plastics chairs and scooters
How about you just get to the gym , and stop feeding your face all the time.
Welcome to Vietnam 🇻🇳 I would suggest you not take their comments about your weight seriously.
Just remember they aren’t teasing you it is more objective. Like one lady just said to me oh you are a big lady.. and that was it. It was just an observation.
Just be careful with little plastic chairs.
2 of my friends went clothes shopping there. One is tiny and the other is an average western size. The tiny one was called “large” and the average sized one was called “extra extra large”.
