Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? Just want to know what to expect and how to react.Thanks.Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? 1967-67 no one was overweight
They would call my partner happy Buddha he was happy with that 😂
They’ll definitely stare at you but I dont think they care that much and even if they make a joke about you,you wont understand a single word
I am overweight.. and YES they will be quick to point it out.. I’ve found the Vietnamese to be extremely blunt about all.
Fat people jokes are common everywhere. You need to be comfortable in your skin and not worry about what others think, or do the work to make the changes you need.
I don’t think you’ll have much of a problem with rudeness. But based on my experience around Asia, and most of the rest of the world, Americans stand out as being particularly overweight. I think most of the world is just used to it. Outside of Europe (and even in many parts of Europe) most of the obese people are American tourists.
The people won’t be making any comments about you in any way shape or form so don’t be worried….hope you have a great time 🙏🏻😀
In Bali the local shop keepers might say ‘you King Kong size’ to both men and women. It’s not malicious it’s a statement of fact.
Honestly, comments about body weight can happen in Vietnam but people usually mean it in a casual, teasing way 😊. It’s not always meant to be hurtful.
Normal… sometimes compliment, sometimes not, and sometimes just objective fact… most don’t mean ill by it, just a different perspective on communication
