They will probably gossip because your back or straight up at your face in Vietnamese. I don’t think it will affect you though jf you’re a tourist in their 15 days and come back home. When i lived in Hanoi every now and then i heard something about my weight and it gets worse when you get closer bonds. There was a moment i said stfu or pay my gym. Then everything stopped. There are good people and bad people in vietnam. And my experience is that gossip and talking about people is part of the culture since it’s a culture with heavy censorship and they can’t talk or question anything else

The Vietnamese are very polite. They won’t say anything or they will compliment you on your good looks as a Buddha.

My husband has a smaller beer gut but many Vietnamese would touch it and say “happy buddha”. Lol

If you go to Thailand you’ll see stores called Love Calories, BeeBeeFat or Fatgirls. They call it as they see it. I don’t think Vietnamese will sugarcoat it for you either. Finding plus sized clothing can be a challenge too even for North Americans that aren’t overweight

Yeah, it’s common but it’s not extremely offensive or too heavy meaning like in the West. You will be fine after a while
