Hello,I had incident that occurred at Tan Son Nhat Airport while I was departing Vietnam. After checking in my luggage, I proceeded to the security checkpoint. While standing in line, I was called to a control room where baggage is scanned. There were no illegal or prohibited items in my luggage. However, the employee asked me for money in order for my luggage to pass through. I found this request unusual and initially declined. She then insisted and suggested that I give 500,000 VND as a tip.In an effort to resolve the situation and continue with my departure, I opened my wallet intending to give a smaller amount (100,000 VND). While I was searching for smaller bills, the employee reached into my wallet and took 500,000 VND without my consent.I would like to know if this is standard practice, as it appeared inappropriate and concerning.

Wow. Has never heard of or experienced this. Been in SE Asia for 15 months and in Vietnam for 5 having taken at least 10 flights just inside Vietnam
In Danang a ban tao seller took 1m dong from girl’s wallet 💳.
Ive never experienced anything similar at any border crossings or airports in Vietnam. That is odd.
Would be great to expose the name or a picture so police can actualy investígate for real
I have had to deal with it on the way in, where someone was trying to ask me for cash because I had 2 laptops with me (this was around 15 years ago) thankfully not on the way out
I see Vietnam airport has not changed. About 15 yrs ago we did two weeks in Vietnam then went over to Cambodia and came back through HCM on our way home. When booking in in Cambodia we had excess luggage and paid the fee. When we got to HCM they wanted us to pay again. We had to fight with them for hrs, saying we had a receipt and etc. They kept saying it was not the right receipt. Anyway stood our digs and finally they let us go. I love Vietnam and have visited 3 times but it certainly a country of scams which is sad. You have to stand your ground and threaten to call police. I reported our experience to our travel agent but never got any results. It’s sad they are still doing these things.
Thanks for the heads up I’ll be sure to have my phone out ready to record a potential incident like yours. Very sorry it happened to you it would leave a real bad feeling about visiting Vietnam again.
