Hello, I had incident that occurred at Tan Son Nhat Airport while I was departing Vietnam.

Hello,I had incident that occurred at Tan Son Nhat Airport while I was departing Vietnam. After checking in my luggage, I proceeded to the security checkpoint. While standing in line, I was called to a control room where baggage is scanned. There were no illegal or prohibited items in my luggage. However, the employee asked me for money in order for my luggage to pass through. I found this request unusual and initially declined. She then insisted and suggested that I give 500,000 VND as a tip.In an effort to resolve the situation and continue with my departure, I opened my wallet intending to give a smaller amount (100,000 VND). While I was searching for smaller bills, the employee reached into my wallet and took 500,000 VND without my consent.I would like to know if this is standard practice, as it appeared inappropriate and concerning.

I always keep my big bills separate from small bills. If this situation arises I say I don’t have money. I usually offer the coins I have and they get frustrated and tell me to go away. I should add I have not been to Viet nam yet, this has only happened to me in Costa Rica, Mexico, Dominican, Panama, and Cuba. Tell them u only have a credit card. Corrupt police don’t have credit card machines 😂

Absolutely not. That is not OK. I’ve been called into that room as well because there was something that shouldn’t have been there, but there is absolutely no way that is legal. Not allowed. Absolutely should be reported.

When any “official” try to collect payment for anything, insist they issue a receipt with their full name and stamped with the logo of the collecting department. Make it clear to them that you will lodge complaint with the embassy office of your citizenship country. That will deter them real quick. It’s just an intimidating scheme to demand “under the table” payments and mostly work with elderlies, the faint hearted, uninformed travellers

I don’t believe you. If this really happened then you are part of the problem for paying.
