Hello,I had incident that occurred at Tan Son Nhat Airport while I was departing Vietnam. After checking in my luggage, I proceeded to the security checkpoint. While standing in line, I was called to a control room where baggage is scanned. There were no illegal or prohibited items in my luggage. However, the employee asked me for money in order for my luggage to pass through. I found this request unusual and initially declined. She then insisted and suggested that I give 500,000 VND as a tip.In an effort to resolve the situation and continue with my departure, I opened my wallet intending to give a smaller amount (100,000 VND). While I was searching for smaller bills, the employee reached into my wallet and took 500,000 VND without my consent.I would like to know if this is standard practice, as it appeared inappropriate and concerning.

So sorry this happened to you! Must have been very scary!
ask to see her supervisor
Not st all. They are very demanding for money. They tried with us also. But we did not open our wallet in front of them. Even immigration are starting this scam. Vietnam is starting to turn tourists away from their country. But what happened to you sad to say that there is nothing you can do.
I can’t believe they do that to the foreigner too
not normal its theft go to police report it
Yes it does happen, but it is not legal. My sister was going w my dad who os almost 90. The wheelchair person who help escort my dad kept his boarding pass and caused us 90 mins delay. So fyi do not let anyone hold your boarding pass. Eva air gave thr boarding pass to thr escorted service. We had electronic visa, but the escorted person to say he wont push my dad bc he didn’t have visa. Security tried to call intervened to help us. Overall we mostly meet good Leone and few shady one ones. I think part of the reasons is it hard to get into work at the airport so they have to pay to get the job so they find ways to make the money back in unethical ways, which O do not agree with. It is my home land and such a beautiful country. I will still come back to visit once every 10 yrs, but I learn each time
I’ve heard it happens but I’ve been to Vietnam 7 times and it’s never happened to me. Lucky I guess.
I’ll take Things That Never Happened for $1000, Alex.
I’ve heard of similar situations happening over the years, unfortunately. From what I’ve observed, they often seem to approach elderly travellers or women travelling alone.
When was it? 1999?
