Hello,I had incident that occurred at Tan Son Nhat Airport while I was departing Vietnam. After checking in my luggage, I proceeded to the security checkpoint. While standing in line, I was called to a control room where baggage is scanned. There were no illegal or prohibited items in my luggage. However, the employee asked me for money in order for my luggage to pass through. I found this request unusual and initially declined. She then insisted and suggested that I give 500,000 VND as a tip.In an effort to resolve the situation and continue with my departure, I opened my wallet intending to give a smaller amount (100,000 VND). While I was searching for smaller bills, the employee reached into my wallet and took 500,000 VND without my consent.I would like to know if this is standard practice, as it appeared inappropriate and concerning.

No offence but a bit ridiculous. You just refuse to pay. So very simple. They won’t escalate.
Something doesn’t sound right with this story. Vietnam immigration are very strict and would never ask for money this way🤔🤔🤔🤔
This happened to a family member, she started protesting very loudly in Vietnamese “what do you mean you need money if there’s no issue with my luggage!! “. They waved her off to shut her up 😂
No way! I was there in March and October 2025 and everyone was so nice and helpful. You should report that. I’ll be back there again in May 2026
Just start yelling scam. And ask to talk to supervisor. They will instantly tell you to go away.
This usually only happened to Vietnamese, I’m surprised to see is happening to the rest of the world. It’s so corrupted and I wish this would stop, so people can enjoy visiting Vietnam .
There are cameras everywhere in their airports, I believe, in part to guard against just this type of experience or allegation. Little chance of this going undetected. Others more familiar with airport security and surveillance within Vietnam’s international airports will know more on this than I do.
This is standard practice in vietnam. When departing vietnam, after check in they tell you to go and wait at the end where luggage scanning occurs to see if there’s any prohibited items in your baggage, if scan is fine (which I’ve never had a problem with) baggage will go through, if they see anything of concern, they raise it to you. Personally I’ve never had a problem or been stopped by them. Maybe it was presents or souvenirs that didnt pass legal customs? Or at worst. You were vulnerable and they took advantage..? Which I’m sorry if they did. Coz unfortunately it does happen
I I found the Vietnamese people the most honest in all of Asia . Maybe try Rome or Barcelona for a real treat .
