Hello, I had incident that occurred at Tan Son Nhat Airport while I was departing Vietnam.

Hello,I had incident that occurred at Tan Son Nhat Airport while I was departing Vietnam. After checking in my luggage, I proceeded to the security checkpoint. While standing in line, I was called to a control room where baggage is scanned. There were no illegal or prohibited items in my luggage. However, the employee asked me for money in order for my luggage to pass through. I found this request unusual and initially declined. She then insisted and suggested that I give 500,000 VND as a tip.In an effort to resolve the situation and continue with my departure, I opened my wallet intending to give a smaller amount (100,000 VND). While I was searching for smaller bills, the employee reached into my wallet and took 500,000 VND without my consent.I would like to know if this is standard practice, as it appeared inappropriate and concerning.

Unfortunately there are lots of unscrupulous customs officers in VN. It used to be much much worse and more obvious, but now it’s a bit more hidden.

Sorry that happened to you, that’s not legal for them to do and they will do it as long as they will get away with it. They are using their authority, uniform in power. I would ask to speak to the higher ups, guest relations, get a translator, make a scene, they will be busted.

This is absolutely unacceptable! The employee’s actions were not only unprofessional, but also illegal. I hope you reported the incident and that the authorities take action. It’s time to stand up against corruption and create a fairer world for everyone. Don’t let the opportunists get away with it!
