One time, I was standing waiting for my taxi and a lady walked up to me and starting shaking my stomach and laughing. Then she offered me a juice. So, ya know, weird things could happen.
Do you speak Vietnamese? They will say your fat and you understand? Best just enjoy your trip. People will look at you but that’s what it is. The kids probably may say your fat, or just smile and yell out hello. If they say to you GA Tay would you even know what that means? The Vietnamese are mostly used to large foreigners, they are not usually the type to yell out at you and even if they did you’ll have no idea what they said. Thick skin or not why worry.
They will definitely comment if you’re also Vietnamese. If you’re 20-25 pounds over your ideal weight, people will put you on notice about your plumpness at the very least and perhaps they will also suggest what you can do to shed of the weight. They have no qualms and often feel they are doing you good by pointing things out, especially if you’re single and/or female.

Asian countries are used to seeing Americans. They just want our tourist dollars. You’re fat so you must be wealthy, able to afford food. That’s a positive.

Just stop eating too much, change yourself instead of trying to change the world!!!
The Vietnamese culture… people comments about you whether positive or negative is because they like you. Fat is considered bountiful. So if they tell you so is actually a compliment. I know it might not make sense but thats their culture.
I have been gradually seeing the waste line expand in Vietnam over the last 20 years as fast food crept into their lives so people staring at fat people isn’t like it used to be you’ll be fine
