Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? Just want to know what to expect and how to react.Thanks.Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? Never heard anyone say anything like that or anything that was remotely rude. Clothes sizes are Asian so L becomes xxxl.

I bet if you mentally prepare for the worst nothing will be said and you’ll be fine. Honestly – who cares . You’re a large human on earth so what. Don’t carry this mental torture on yourselves . If someone makes fun or says insensitive things and you hear it – take a look at them and mention they have a weird shaped head . That will live in their mind for ever you win. Seriously doubt anyone would make comments the Vietnamese people are polite .

You may get people rubbing your stomach and calling you lucky Buddha. Laugh and accept it and you will have a great time…

I’m sorry to say but they are very ugly when it comes to that, not all but most. I get greetings like… getting chubby now a day ha? Or been out partying too much is that why you’re so skinny.. just overlook them all hun and y’all enjoy yourself, there’s always somebody ugly every where you go.

It’s your reaction that matters, you need to accept yourself. Since asians usually don’t have filters, anything said usually is without malice, what they see – they say. The truth hurts, either accept it or do something about it.
