Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? Just want to know what to expect and how to react.Thanks.Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? After an evening of many rice whiskies atop a mountain with the locals at Tet one year I absolutely exploded one of the little red plastic stools when I sat down. It was received with applause and another few rounds of shots with the family and the regional ‘mayor’ (can’t remember the term they used). They were very accommodating.
I would imagine the restaurants would be pleased to see you at the very least 🤷 so just enjoy the food, I’m predicting a 5 kg increase at least as a result, crispy pork everywhere, I mean, your only human and they are known for they’re food so my goal is to pig out, but do lots of walking 😁
Don’t think about shopping here!
Just smile and take no notice
It is common everywhere. Just that Western society does a better job hiding/ making not too obvious. If you are super sensitive about your body image, join a cruise where everyone is trained to serve you like servants.
First sentence my vietnamese friend told me when we first met was “oh my god bro your are old…. Very very old”
Hahaha yes but please don’t take it to heart. My friend and I were referred to as the “two fat ladies” by a bicycle rickshaw man. Seriously it was all in good humour and we all laughed hysterically because it’s true we are fat.
Yes they will call u fat but in Vietnamese
No, don’t worry about that. And don’t care anything, just care how you and your wife enjoy in my country
Every time I was walking around and a grab scooter pulled up asking if I want a lift I just said no I’m fat and I need to walk. The guy would laugh and agree and ride away. 😂
