Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? Just want to know what to expect and how to react.Thanks.Honest question: my wife and I are overweight and not thick-skinned. Are comments or jokes about body weight common in Vietnam? You’ll probably get stared at and eyeballed cause everyone there is so skinny they enjoy seeing fat westerners
Might call you ,”Big Buddha”
To be honest, Vietnamese sometimes will stare at foreigners regardless if you’re skinny or fat, short or tall. Also, “fat” does not convey the negative image in Vietnamese culture. I called my child “Map” (meaning “fat”) in hope that she will gain weight and be a chubby baby. Be confident and happy whereever you go, people will forget your face in 48 hours.
Omg im here just now and choking at these comments. Haha 😂😂im not skinny ,but will be by the time im home . Its the end of their new year and im not sure if chicken is a delicacy for them because I live on it basically and its sold out everywhere 😂.
They may exclaim you are fat but not in the negative way, coz it’s associated with fortune.
Vietnamese people are very honest. They mean no harm by it.
You made it this far. Why care? Hell! You wouldn’t understand them anyway. 😆
You won’t have any problem
Being fat in veitnam is not the same as the most of the world. They say that u eat well. Not u are lazy. But if u sleep a lot then they say ur lazy. In not fat but im not fit either and I get called fat.
Yea we joke a lot about weight
