We traveled as a family with my elderly father a few years back and had no problems navigating through Vietnam good planning helped with travel my father had a stroke a few years before so he had some mobility issues we booked disability access that allowed us as a family to board lifts instead of climbing stairs to some aircraft’s. My dad the last week of our months travel came down sick and was admitted to hospital I would recommend having top insurance just incase as they will not admit you to hospital without payment and insurance conformation. I had everything photocopied id and insurance stuff ready and this made the process easier. The hospitals were better than Australia but there was a language barrier but with google translate made it easier Eg the families do the bathing and food in most instances something I didn’t understand when asking for my dad to be cleaned up. Our insurance company provided an interpreter to communicate our wants and needs. I would recommend getting an eSIM before you fly out so roaming and access isn’t an issue also download grab before you leave so you can book rides cheaper than taxi’s and get food delivered. The roads and paths are uneven so good shoes are a must we prefer crocs as they are comfortable easy wearing steady walking shoes and it doesn’t matter when the rain comes. We love Vietnam so much that are considering living there amazing culture people and food. Have fun don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today!

If you don’t have a problem with mobility, what are you waiting for? you’re missing out. I can’t recommend Vietnamese hospitality enough. Your hotel’s front desk is your best friend. Most of the time they can fix/arrange anything for you, even laundry. Just tell them what you need. Download SEA’s Uber version, the Grab app. For alternatives use Xanh GSM or Be app too. Use ChatGPT for more accurate translations. Buy a Viettel physical sim card when you reach the city, not at the airport. If you want more pointers or have any more questions, I’m willing to help. I’m not Vietnamese, not a tour operator or a driver, just a fellow traveller.

Not a walking friendly country unless you limit yourself to certain areas, which is why I think you should consider a guided tour to ensure your safety and make the most of your trip. Also, be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded areas.
