My wife and I are in our seventies and did type a Mekon river cruise package from Siem Reap to Ho Chi Mihn and four days at a beach hotel in the delta. Absolutely perfect. The only concern is crossing roads but it becomes easier once you become familiar with it. We are well travelled and the Cambodia, Vietnam holiday offers greater diversity. Friendly and welcoming.
You be fine. Stay out of politics just like most communist countries and you be fine. A matter of fact, you be more safer then us Vietnamese. . But don’t know what you been told?

Just turned 75 and with bad knees spent 16 days doing basket boats, Hoi A night boats laying candle lights in river and My Sun Sanctuary day trip as well as day tour to Ba Den Mountain.(including 9.5 km of walking) Had a great time and everyone looked after me so well. You will love it.
Except crossing the streets or walking through vendors in narrow pavements sometimes, dont worry much, elders are respected in Vietnam and will be cared whenever they see you’re struggling
Loved my trip…30 days in the month of October. I’m 65 and had no problem keeping up with my private tour. So much to see and do….this was my traveled map.

My advice is just decide on your location of Choice and just go make your own opinion on your visit, myself I just got back from Ho chi Minh City and it was absolutely incredible people were amazing
Im 78 and have been going there for 20 odd years. Get out thete and enjoy yourselves
Fantastic place to visit. Travel is superb easy. Do not book internal travel or stays with Australian Tra el agents as they will rip you off. We found a small hotel in centre of Hanoi after checking reviews. Cost was a third of what was on offer at home for similar product. Local travel and tours were booked through the hotel travel desk, again a third cheaper than at home for identical item. I have a 4 week itinerary if you want to PM me.
