Just received our Wise Card – got it on the recommendation of a traveller friend.

Just received our Wise Card – got it on the recommendation of a traveller friend. Was told to test it in Australia before going to Vietnam. Made a purchase at Woollies using tap & go – all good. Went to a couple of ATM’S to try a withdrawal – one wanted a $7.50 transaction fee – the other one a $15.00 fee. Does anyone have experience in using Wise O/Seas? Maybe the fees were because we were using it in Australia?Wondering if this is the level of fees on Vietnam ATM’S? Thanks

I don’t think the rates are very good for that card.

We have just returned from Vietnam and Cambodia and yes there are fees at atms using wise card for cash withdrawals which we had to do a lot as quite common only cash is accepted. Hotels and larger restaurants accepted card payments but generally cash is necessary.

We did get hit with withdrawal fees but it was probably the bank we used rather than the card and to be honest when it’s so hot and busy , surrounded by thousands of people in streets it really didn’t matter , the main thing was we got cash we needed that had already been converted to VND at a good rate on the Wise card before we left home , everything incurs fees these days . Wise has been very easy to use and get great rates

I used mine to withdraw in Bali, cost $8. That’s steep I think. But no charges to tap.

Not sure why everyone is crazy about Wise? I also jumped on it a few years ago, and found it incredibly frustrating and the fees are not cheap!

We used ours for the first time in Vietnam at an ATM. No fees. But we tried getting out 8 million, but it did only allow us to take out 5 mill. I didn’t try is at an ATM in Australia before we came tho

Get the “ATM fee saver” app. It shows fees, withdrawal limits etc. we had UP card and Bendigo Bank card and one atm told us it was wrong pin and invalid but worked in HSBC, Sacombank, and another one I don’t remember. Here’s a sample screen shot from the app

I have used mine in Bali, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam but only to buy things not at atm, no fees. We were told not to use atms at airport in Vietnam as they are very expensive but away from the airport some have small fees others have none.
