Just received our Wise Card – got it on the recommendation of a traveller friend.

Just received our Wise Card – got it on the recommendation of a traveller friend. Was told to test it in Australia before going to Vietnam. Made a purchase at Woollies using tap & go – all good. Went to a couple of ATM’S to try a withdrawal – one wanted a $7.50 transaction fee – the other one a $15.00 fee. Does anyone have experience in using Wise O/Seas? Maybe the fees were because we were using it in Australia?Wondering if this is the level of fees on Vietnam ATM’S? Thanks

I never checked mine in Australia and it has been fine. Australia is the worst for bank fees. I’m in vietnam and haven’t had any of those fees. But I haven’t withdrawn any cash on it. Just used it for purchases. Perhaps that’s the difference.

How much should I put on a wise card? Only going for 2 weeks but plants to use cash mostly.

As an Australian going to Vietnam and for global travels I use an UP bank card. Very good exchange rates <1% from the mid market rate, no withdrawal fees in Vietnam if using VP bank and no withdrawal fees in any other countries I’ve been to unless the local ATM charges fees.

Go to the travel hub tab on the Wise app & you can find fee free ATM’S.

We’ve been using ours for 3 months and depending on what ATM/bank you use, depends on how much of a fee is applied. Fees are often calculated on how much you’re withdrawing…on average we’ve paid about $2-$4 AUD per transaction.

We used ours in stores in Vietnam with no fees. Didn’t use any ATM’s

Fees come down to the country and ATM you happen to use.

You need to activate card in Australia then run it in an EFTPOS terminal and an ATM to make it work in both overseas. Just buy something cheap at the supermarket on EFTPOS and do a balance enquiry on ATM(no need to withdraw). Follow the instructions Wise send you & it should work fine overseas afterwards.
