Just received our Wise Card – got it on the recommendation of a traveller friend. Was told to test it in Australia before going to Vietnam. Made a purchase at Woollies using tap & go – all good. Went to a couple of ATM’S to try a withdrawal – one wanted a $7.50 transaction fee – the other one a $15.00 fee. Does anyone have experience in using Wise O/Seas? Maybe the fees were because we were using it in Australia?Wondering if this is the level of fees on Vietnam ATM’S? Thanks

I found this card too much hassle, I have a Macquarie bank Mastercard, no fees ever, if there is one they reimburse you and if you have notifications on the amount you spend pops up in Aussie dollars immediately, so you know your not being ripped
I don’t understand the fascination with Wise when you can get regular bank cards that you can use to make transactions overseas, including ATM withdrawals at no cost without having to transfer money and pay fees
The fees vary no matter the country when using an atm
Last year I used wise card in Vn . TP bank was best as you could withdraw larger amounts. Can’t recall fees
Wise has a great marketing campaign but Macquarie debit MasterCard, Ubank or any international fee-free debit/credit card is a better option than Wise, which charges you for:
Australian banks charge a fortune for foreign cards ie not that banks! I was very happy a few years ago when I stopped having to use cash in Australia – this is not Wise thing it’s a ATM thing. Everywhere you need to research the cheapest ATM to use in most countries
When the ATM asks to select an account did you choose, “credit”. It says to in the letter your card came on.
Used Wise for travelling for the last 11 months: Europe/Egypt/India/Vietnam/Thailand. The best thing ever for hopping between countries/currencies. But there is a raft of info on the ‘net about which ATM’s to use in which countries to minimize withdrawal fees. Do your homework.
I use an UP card when I travel. Easy, cost effective and displays local currency in the app. Less math to do while on holiday 😉
I guess I’m sticking with cash
