Hi everyone, I will be travelling to Vietnam for the first time later this year.I grew up hearing stories about corrupt airport officials asking for bribe money when you enter/leave the country.I was told that they will make up random excuses to make you wait – sometimes the entire day. I heard it mostly has to do with fake “Visa issues”… “longer baggage checks”… “confiscated packages at Customs”… (especially expensive items). Is all of that still happening in 2026?

My first time back in over 40 years was about 3 years ago. Didn’t put any “bribe money” in my passsport as my wife who’s been back a couple times before me said not to & didn’t have issues, not even a single question. As a few others have said, make sure all your documents are in order. I don’t recall them having fast track when I went. I guess I went during a slow time & it was relatively quick. I guess if I went during peak times, I would’ve spent the extra funds on a fast pass service.
Nope
שקר וכזב
If yoy feel that way simply don’t go, not had any problems.
Well the airport official asked me how many Dongs I was leaving Vietnam with last year. It seriously felt like a shakedown. I showed him my USD$40 equivalent and he let me go.
That is nonsense
Been here 3 months and just did a visa run, zero issues.
Don’t believe everything you hear, I’ve traveled to Vietnam five times and never once did I need to bribe anyone at the airport.
Shut up
I have been to Vietnam 9 times, never experienced any form of corruption.
