Hi everyone, I will be travelling to Vietnam for the first time later this year.

Hi everyone, I will be travelling to Vietnam for the first time later this year.I grew up hearing stories about corrupt airport officials asking for bribe money when you enter/leave the country.I was told that they will make up random excuses to make you wait – sometimes the entire day. I heard it mostly has to do with fake “Visa issues”… “longer baggage checks”… “confiscated packages at Customs”… (especially expensive items). Is all of that still happening in 2026?

You should by more worried about the cops in small town rural Areas. We had to pay them 6 million or they were going to take our bikes and take us to jail. We had proper documents with us. They said we didn’t. Not much you can do but 💰

I went to Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City for the first time in Feb last year. I flew in an out of Vietnam by myself I didn’t have any issues… only going back I had too much in my luggage I had to take out a few items put it in my carry on. The check in gal was not very polite when I asked the conversion from kg to lbs. But no issues.

Hi Alex we didn’t have any issues at all. Only with my visa prior to us departing Australia . My whole family was granted a visa but mine never arrived . I used the government website. Couldn’t get any answers. I ended up paying an agent who arranged my visa in 24 hours. This seems to be quite common . Just give yourself lots of time to get the visa just in case of any issues and be prepared to pay for it
