Watch out for the bait and switch taxi drivers. They will take 500,000 and then switch it to 50,000 Dong (100,000 to 10,000)and say you still owe them money. It’s happened to me twice in Saigon. This was the one who got away with it. The second one didn’t work. Your best bet is to get a Grab from the app off your phone.

Just don’t use them. We were forced too take a regular cab twice bc our sim wasn’t working. Both times they tried to scam. GRAB app. It’s safe, convenient and no hassles.

I only use grab. Never had a problem.
Dont use the driver that walking up to you at the airport and show a GRAB logo on his phone.
Vinasun or marlin taxi are safe
I had one booked in Dong and they claimed it was booked in dollars (we are from the UK) so don’t have dollars

Dont take taxi in VN, the driver can circle around the block and you wouldn’t know it. Also, I heard they can cheat meter so your best bet download grab at least you know where you are heading by follow the app. And yeah it’s more expensive to take taxi than grab. Taxi are preying on the stupid looking people. I play dumb with a taxi driver once told him I will be back if he wait for me and left him waiting so as a Vietnamese dont trust taxi driver or someone who would pick you up without saying how much he charging you first
You try to believe it won’t happen to you. It’s their way of life. Poor and desperate.😂
