Watch out for the bait and switch taxi drivers. They will take 500,000 and then switch it to 50,000 Dong (100,000 to 10,000)and say you still owe them money. It’s happened to me twice in Saigon. This was the one who got away with it. The second one didn’t work. Your best bet is to get a Grab from the app off your phone.

Always a get a grab taxi you know exactly how much to pay before you ride
Using Grab and/or Xanh SM will prevent that from happening.

Grab and xanh sm is way to go now a days. Everything else is just money grabber
In Saigon my grab taxi rides were canceled several times by drivers because of the distance or heavy traffic. So even grab has some handicaps in the big cities but grab offers reimbursement after several cancellations. So still grab is wonderful but if you travel to airport etc to catch your appointments still be careful. I had a flight to catch and almost one hour none of the grab rides accepted my ride and I had to find a car manually
For transport, I think it’s best to use an app like Grab or Xanh SM. There you see the price in advance and no scam can happen.
