Suitcase or backpack?Hi I’m planning to travel south east Asia – Vietnam, Malaysia (maybe Thailand) and China, for about 3-4 months. Everyone I see takes a backpack, but the idea of carrying that around doesn’t please me. Would I be okay with a suitcase instead? Did anyone have a bad experience with a suitcase?

Third time in SE Asia, including a current 40 day trip. Carry-on only traveler. But I bring both a wheeled hardcase suitcase & daypack/backpack as personal item on planes so far. Works for me.
Suitcase for checked baggage
We have backpacks and they work well for us but only if you can carry the weight ok. One thing to be aware of though – our friend in Vietnam joked that locals get the best price, backpackers get the next best price and people dragging suitcases get the highest price!
My cabin bag/backpack is a suitcase and expands. My carry on is 10kgs (max) and my daily backpack is 2 kgs (max).
Depends on your itinerary and your age.
Carry-on worked fine for me.
Look at the high sierra backpack with wheels. Comes in different sizes. Work well as backpack or bag with wheels
Carry on roller suitcase
I’m 50 my husband is 55 and we travel a lot all around the world with a back pack ..on way home we bag a case fill it with all our buys and that’s the only time a case comes with us. Suitcases aren’t practical dragging from hotels and getting your washing done is so cheap z
Are you happy to pay for taxis door to door everywhere – bring a big bag. Personally i’ve just bought a super-lightweirght backpack so I can stay under the 7kg limit for most flights in the region. I’m old and I don’t want to drag a wheeled bag around and have to carry it up and down stairs – a decent fitted backpack is much kinder to your body
