Suitcase or backpack? Hi I’m planning to travel south east Asia – Vietnam, Malaysia (maybe Thailand) and China, for about 3-4 months.

Suitcase or backpack?Hi I’m planning to travel south east Asia – Vietnam, Malaysia (maybe Thailand) and China, for about 3-4 months. Everyone I see takes a backpack, but the idea of carrying that around doesn’t please me. Would I be okay with a suitcase instead? Did anyone have a bad experience with a suitcase?

Just just finished a month in Vietnam and travelled to 10 different locations using a variety of transportation methods. Packing light is your friend. We easily managed with a small carry on/rolling bag. Pack cloths that you’ll actually wear, not what you think you’ll wear. Enough clean clothes for 4-5 days, socks and underwear for a week. Do laundry once a week. Don’t worry about what you don’t have. You won’t need it. Or you can buy it. I see people with heavy backpacks and huge suitcases and wonder what the heck they have in there. We simply prefer travelling light and don’t shop for stuff we don’t need.

To be honest I take a small wheel suitcase only use it from airport to the grab not on streets & small backpack wen going out for day/ overnight. You really don’t need much clothes with you everything cheap as chips just do what works for you good luck enjoy just don’t overpack.

Backpacks get heavy after a while. Suitcases have wheels. Think about it.

Back pack is quite easy, you don’t carry it much just when changing accommodating. I find it better having it on my back but each to there own.

I’m first time in southeast now traveling the places you mention. I would never personally carry a backpack only. Rolling case is fine. Some streets may be more challenging but zero regrets.

Backpack about 25l for handluggage and day trips and suitcase luggage about 12kg for traveling around. I’m carrying my winter clothes with me so that’s why some more luggage. You can do laundry so you don’t have to carry many clothes. It will be the same about of clothes for 2 weeks trip as it is for 6months trip
