I’m planning a couple of days in HCM next week (tues-thurs). Feeling a bit apprehensive as i hate big busy cities! I want to visit the war remnants museam & do some shopping (i fly home on thurs eve). Are there any other MUST do/see things in HCM? What do you recommend? I prefer to walk places so hoping to keep it simple & compact. Also any recommendations for cheap hotels near the war museam would be welcome. Also if theres anyone in HCM next week who wants to meet up (solo older women like me maybe) then that would be lovely!

I loved district 1 and stayed at La Paix. Extremely inexpensive, family run, clean, modern, great location. Do the sunset river cruise. Just buy a ticket at the wharf.

Stay in D1 somewhere it’s not far from remnants museum from memory.

If u are a sensitive person i think u should avoid the warmuseum. Me and my wife almost felt sick after seeing all these terrible things that happened during that horrifying war. A alternative is benh tanh market. Much happier place.

If you want some calm and quiet try the museum of traditional medicine or the fine arts museum. Be warned the War remnants museum can weigh heavy on your emotions and it increases as you head up each floor. You can also include the Vietnam woman’s museum which I found really interesting

If you’re brave, try a food scooter tour. It was absolutely brilliant! I loved HCMC

Saigon river dinner cruise booked on get your guide they will usually have other travellers on the table with you . Buffet dinner drinks extra or walk by the river to watch the boats and buildings light up . Use grab to get around lots of sketchy street cabs that our guide warned us about . Independence Palace was interesting and the sky tower 46 floors up view over Saigon . You can see where the last helicopter took off near the Opera house. Ngon restaurant was wonderful . Found the remnants museum difficult for lots of reasons . Leaving Saigon today for Mui
