I’m planning a couple of days in HCM next week (tues-thurs).

I’m planning a couple of days in HCM next week (tues-thurs). Feeling a bit apprehensive as i hate big busy cities! I want to visit the war remnants museam & do some shopping (i fly home on thurs eve). Are there any other MUST do/see things in HCM? What do you recommend? I prefer to walk places so hoping to keep it simple & compact. Also any recommendations for cheap hotels near the war museam would be welcome. Also if theres anyone in HCM next week who wants to meet up (solo older women like me maybe) then that would be lovely!

Jovia Hotel is reasonable, with a small rooftop pool, around the corner from Ben Thanh Markets. We like to go on early morning walks from the hotel to and around Tao Dan Park.

We did a cooking workshop in HCM and loved it. Have a good appetite as you all eat what you cook. Great to meet some friendly faces as well. Just Google cooking class HCM, take a tour out to the Cu chi tunnels ( not correct spelling ) very interesting . Markets are great too. Very hot and humid there for me who hates the heat.

Install the app and pay for it in advance versus paying at service. It’s for sure legit.

The first thing I did was a free walking tour gives you a feel for where to go

Go to Old Compass Cafe in HCM, in fact contact the co owner Duong before you go to arrange a city walking tour with her. She’s ao Ely woman, knows a lot, great cafe, good starting point. We’re older people, visit often, remember us to her. Pammy and Paul.

The War Remnant Museum is horrific. I couldn’t stick it. Unless you’re fascinated by war and have a very high tolerance for gore and horror, give it a miss.

My hubby and I (older travellers too) stayed in the amazing Little Saigon Boutique Hotel and spa. It’s a small hotel down a cute alley of a couple of local shops and a coffee shop right inbetween Ben Than market and the opera House/post office. Was easy to walk everywhere. We did walk to the War remnants museum from there too. The hotel was recommended by people in this group. We booked direct with them.

HCM is great for walking around. Very safe. Jump on the city buses first and you’ll get an idea of the city and where you want to go. We’re were there last November and really enjoyed it. War remnant museum a must.
