Are hotel rooms in Hanoi safe to leave valuables in when away exploring the city? Deposit box, locked luggage are enough? Sorry first time traveling to Vietnam, any good tips appreciated

In all honesty who knows. We had things stolen from a very high end 5 star hotel. Then we have been in other places and asolutely beautiful people, who will look after your bags. Now it’s hard to call. I think take what’s valuable. If other things are stolen it will mean less. Locked or not, some places I have heard over the last decade , the cleaners seem to have the combination of a safe .
It depends of the quality of the hotel
They will cut the hands off the thef i think, deen here going on 3 weeks no homeless or drunk addicts laying around.
No always keep your valuables with you
It was fine for us.We stayed in the thang long opera house. But then I read, some people are getting money snatched from safe, so we just keep everything on us now. It’s very safe in vietnam, but if you go out late at night and you’re gonna do a bunch of drinking, then you might want to leave it there
We always left everythingbin the hotel room. No safe. It is sa er than taking it with you.
I never travel with anything unless I am prepared to lose it. Frankly, the biggest culprit would be me. Leaving something behind. (Yes, on public transport, I keep my passport and cards in my money belt. These days, passports are bio-metric, so not so transferrable. Now, my most valuable item is that phone.)
It depend on your luck, though it happened in Hoi An, not in Hanoi. But use your common sense.
Safe deposit box in your room.
Our hotel safe was compromised and a large quantity of cash stolen in a good Hoi An hotel recently. That said, we’ve traveled the world and this is the first time/country this has happened. You only need one rotten egg amongst the staff.
