I’m planning a couple of days in HCM next week (tues-thurs).

I’m planning a couple of days in HCM next week (tues-thurs). Feeling a bit apprehensive as i hate big busy cities! I want to visit the war remnants museam & do some shopping (i fly home on thurs eve). Are there any other MUST do/see things in HCM? What do you recommend? I prefer to walk places so hoping to keep it simple & compact. Also any recommendations for cheap hotels near the war museam would be welcome. Also if theres anyone in HCM next week who wants to meet up (solo older women like me maybe) then that would be lovely!

In Saigon we stay at California hotel with rooftop pool, it’s in the middle of District 1 short walk to war museum, walking street, market etc. and the breakfasts are good. There are plenty cafes, bars and restaurants all around, it’s in a good spot to see it all.

Sounds like the hop on hop off bus would be your best bet and look for a hotel in district 1

As a frequent visitor to Vietnam, I think you’ll love the Independence Palace and other historical sites in Saigon. Don’t miss the street food, it’s delicious! For the War Museum, it’s essential to understand the context. If you’re interested in exploring more, I’d be happy to share some recommendations.

Stay in District 1 as you can then walk….there is an app called “Visit a City” download it and put in HCM City and then you can work out what suits your style of sight seeing….it’s a great city that never stops.

If you stay in district one, they have a fabulous double-decker bus. It’s really cheap. I think you buy a day ticket. It’s gonna hop on hop off situation they give you a great schedule and the war remnant museum is on their loop. They also take you to a flower market and a few other points of interest that I don’t recall I would also say eat eat eat! So many wonderful restaurants I’m an older so the woman traveler as well and I love it in Saigon! If you want, I can recommend a hotel, not very expensive and right in the middle of everything. It actually more like an apartment and was down this little alleyway 100% safe and very cool and representative of the city . Right below it, They have a family owned and operated pho restaurant that actually has a Michelin star!
