Update** this post is a warning not a field to discuss my story ✌️I have all documents needed ( IDP, A license , Insurance, Rental contract, Helmet, day lights, Visa …) ⚠️ Travel Warning – Ha Giang Loop Police StopSharing my experience to help other travelers stay informed.📌Location : POLOCE CHECK POINT ,Quản Bạ, Tuyên Quang, Vietnam🕒 January 26th, 2026 – around 11 AMI was stopped by police while riding a Honda 110cc motorbike on the Ha Giang Loop. I showed both my Tunisian driving license and my International Driving Permit. My national license legally allows me to ride motorcycles up to **124cc**, so the international permit should cover the same category.Despite this, the officers took my keys and documents and claimed I was not allowed to drive the bike. They demanded **4,000,000 VND**. I realized something was wrong when they said *“If you pay, no one will stop you again.”*After bargaining, they accepted **2,000,000 VND**, gave no official ticket, and let me continue.Vietnam has been amazing overall, actually it’s the best country I’ve ever visited — I’m sharing this only to warn other travelers to know their rights, ask for an official receipt, and stay calm if something similar happens.

Your country uses 1949 IDP not 1968 IDP, you didn’t do your research

Do you have a Tunisian driver’s license for cars that also covers motorcycles? Or do you have a separate license for motorcycles?

There’s many YouTubers that claim once you pay a fine they let you continue as this is apparently some kind of normal practice.

Mate your international and home driving licence doesn’t mean shit here do your research before making accusations you can not legally ride in Vietnam without a Vietnam licence

Something similar happened to me in Mexico twice. The 1st time the police wanted $50, the second time they asked me for $600. After going back-and-forth with two cops, they took $400 from me. I wouldn’t shoot the present and made a complaint about them, but nothing happened.

Have you passed the test to ride 125s? In the UK we can ride them provisionally after taking a CBT but that doesn’t allow us to ride internationally, we have to take the A test (or A1/A2 for small cc bikes), without one of the As passed on both your domestic and international licence you would be riding illegally.
