Update** this post is a warning not a field to discuss my story ✌️I have all documents needed ( IDP, A license , Insurance, Rental contract, Helmet, day lights, Visa …) ⚠️ Travel Warning – Ha Giang Loop Police StopSharing my experience to help other travelers stay informed.📌Location : POLOCE CHECK POINT ,Quản Bạ, Tuyên Quang, Vietnam🕒 January 26th, 2026 – around 11 AMI was stopped by police while riding a Honda 110cc motorbike on the Ha Giang Loop. I showed both my Tunisian driving license and my International Driving Permit. My national license legally allows me to ride motorcycles up to **124cc**, so the international permit should cover the same category.Despite this, the officers took my keys and documents and claimed I was not allowed to drive the bike. They demanded **4,000,000 VND**. I realized something was wrong when they said *“If you pay, no one will stop you again.”*After bargaining, they accepted **2,000,000 VND**, gave no official ticket, and let me continue.Vietnam has been amazing overall, actually it’s the best country I’ve ever visited — I’m sharing this only to warn other travelers to know their rights, ask for an official receipt, and stay calm if something similar happens.

I know friends of mine who are live streamers and vloggers, when the police see the cameras on the helmets and or chest mounts they don’t act scammy. Just a heads up. Another thing some do is have a decoy wallet with $5 or $10 and show them that’s all you got. Usually they will let you go. Another thing some do is speak another language and just waffle off in that language, they usually give up and let you go.

What type of sticker do you have on IDP. If you have marked A then ok. If only B but in your country they allow to use 125cc motorcycle then it means nothing in international law. In that case you drove illegally.

Were you wearing a helmet? I was never stopped and had a helmet and face shield so they could not pick me out as a foreigner. I have been stopped in several countries and every time I tell them I have no money but they can follow me to my hotel or atm. The have always let me go without payment
