SapaBe aware when booking— the tiered rice fields are green in June and July, yellow in August and September and then brown the rest of the year. We chose the “home stay” version wanting to experience some of the local life. The ride from Hanoi was close to 6 hrs in a bus (pic #1). Well I had no idea 🤷🏻♀️😆. They made 2 stops (breakfast & lunch). Make sure to bring cash b/c you will need 3K dong to use the bathroom. It was suppose to be a 4 hr hike to the home stay but after a 30 min walk I called a taxi which got us there 3 hrs ahead of schedule. 🥳Our friendly guide gave us a tour of her village & home. You just don’t know how good you have it until you see how others live!

Anyone who is not sure about Sapa, look into Pu Luong! It’s closer and it’s green earlier 🙂
We are in Sapa now. We did a 3.5 hour walk today through the not so tourist area and loved. They only grow rice crops 2x a year, but it was still worth seeing the gorgeous scenery 👌 😉
I lived Sapa went in October. 4 years ago.
We have just completed what sounds like a similar 2N/3D hiking tour with home stay through Sapa. We had a full description of what we were getting into when booking and WhatsApp messages back and forth with any further questions. We were 2 x 45yr old woman truly amazed at the experience, even down to the sleeper bus drive and toilet stops along the way. Both days had been wet and slippery and with a mixed group we were all given options for the easy or harder ways telling us what was involved in both directions and the option to split the group with help from the local ladies if necessary. We all agreed on the harder ways both days to get the full experience but there was no hurry making sure everyone was comfortable. We had sticks given to us for support if needed and our guides were amazing. I would absolutely recommend the tour to anyone although some fitness will make it a better experience. And obviously read the full description when doing your research to make sure it is the right activity for you. Sapa will now always have a place in my heart ❤️
We went in October last year…spectacular
How would you travel Vietnam without cash? 🤔
Highly recommend Green Local Travel, they’re an ethical tourism company based there, also have lots of volunteering opportunities…I helped build their website and taught English to their your guides last year. ☺️🫶
Ellen thank goodness we arent travelling with this person
And they are still happier than most and content with life.
It appears that you didn’t do much research before you went. A lot of Vietnamese don’t live in the comfort that we are used to but they are happy, friendly and very hospitable at the home stays and cooked delicious food. Hopefully you took away some positives from your experience
