I’m sorry if this gets asked all the time .

I’m sorry if this gets asked all the time . I’m doing my first solo trip to Vietnam for 3 weeks . I’m from the UK, I’ve managed to save a good wadv of cash (all hotels paid for and some trips) . How do I go about exchanging it ? Am I better off putting it on some kind of card ? Take money out of their ATM . I understand they like cash. I need step by step advice please as I’m a bit slow and have no clue. Also Where’s best to get to a sim please 🫣😁Many thanks

Just take money from ATM in Vietnam. Its very safety. Check your bank if you will have a fee. For the sim card. Take it on the airport – viettel. If you take it inside in the city, you can spend around 2 pounds.

We pay for almost everything with a card. But we do carry some dong and USD cash. If we need more dong we get it from the ATM.

I don’t know why people risk using ATM’s in foreign countries? We just take AUD or US currency with us and exchange it as we need it at our hotels. We always arrive with some foreign currency, if we can, just as a contingency. We bring our Australian dedit cards with us to pay any big bills at hotels, etc but, avoid ATM’s. With all that hassle about fees and whether the machine will eat your card, it’s not worth it.

Don’t buy a SIM card at the airport, because it won’t last long.

Actually I live here 6 months out of the year. At least where I am in the central region most businesses take scan pay. Moretta is an app that I can load from my home bank or credit card. Very low fees and no hassle with cash.

I took a couple of hundred VND for snacks and tips. I used my Starling card, like Revolute at ATM and VP bank does not charge for withdrawals but check your exchange rate.. also most markets allow you to pay in dollars and restaurants and services you can pay by card but they may charge you 3%
