I’m sorry if this gets asked all the time .

I’m sorry if this gets asked all the time . I’m doing my first solo trip to Vietnam for 3 weeks . I’m from the UK, I’ve managed to save a good wadv of cash (all hotels paid for and some trips) . How do I go about exchanging it ? Am I better off putting it on some kind of card ? Take money out of their ATM . I understand they like cash. I need step by step advice please as I’m a bit slow and have no clue. Also Where’s best to get to a sim please 🫣😁Many thanks

Emma, we too are from the UK, we travel abroad about 6 times a year & wouldn’t be without our Chase debit card & Barclaycard. I’ll explain why.

Regarding a Sim or eSIM, don’t buy at the airport. You get better rates in town. I’ve found Viettel the best but others see also worth considering.

I have a travel card on which I put money from another account and withdraw cash locally. If I get low on cash and don’t have enough on the card I transfer more onto it. Very easily done and all on my phone.

Cash US king but you can get your millions out every day at ATM

I threw some Dong onto my WISE card, just in case. I’m also taking 6,000,000 Dong I exchanged at home, and some crisp $100CAD bills.

There in a month I am considering buying VND from Asda or Tesco?

Sometimes, it’s easier just to download an e-SIM. For example, Airalo or Saily rather than dealing with the complications of airport SIM card vendors. Simply download it, select your usage and duration of stay, and decide whether to enable auto top-up. Additionally, you can have more than one e-SIM and options for multiple countries if you are stopping off or travelling extensively. Revolut cards don’t charge for payments or withdrawals and are now an authorised bank.

Just make sure that any cash you take are new bills as the exchange rate is less for old looking money
