I’m sorry if this gets asked all the time . I’m doing my first solo trip to Vietnam for 3 weeks . I’m from the UK, I’ve managed to save a good wadv of cash (all hotels paid for and some trips) . How do I go about exchanging it ? Am I better off putting it on some kind of card ? Take money out of their ATM . I understand they like cash. I need step by step advice please as I’m a bit slow and have no clue. Also Where’s best to get to a sim please 🫣😁Many thanks

Put it on a wise card & draw out $
With my 20+ years in and out of VN, ATMs and other expenses using my Australia debit card make a lot of sense, and avoid hassles
They often have stations selling Viet SIM cards right at the airport as long as you got out of the lines. I didn’t buy it at Tân son nhat Airport because my US sim was still working with internet LTE and free texts (except calls: 0.25$ per minute so I never called) and I used that to install Grab, Xanh SM, Be drivers so I could book a driver anytime I needed.
See what your own bank charges for foreign ATM withdrawals and if it’s expensive have a look at the Wise card. It’s hard to change cash into local currency. Cards are taken in the bigger city so again make sure you’ve got one with low fees (Nationwide Flex would do all this or Flexplus includes your travel insurance too but there are others)
Applying for e-sim is much cheaper thru Agoda
Buy airalo sim for Asia online at home then activate when you get here

We are in Tam Coc no bank so came to Ninh Binh and all the banks are closed for 2 hour lunch 🤣🤣🤣. Definitely keep a ATM card
Hi! If you have time, come visit Halo Retreat in Thung Nai, Hoa Binh – a peaceful lakeside retreat about 80 km from Hanoi.
I am in Vietnam now. My 6th trip. I have always brought cash, clean, new US $100, and exchanged them at gold stores. With the new law, I asked my hotel manager and she directed me to a safe money exchange…26,600 dong per dollar. Smooth as silk.
