My advice is shell out the money to fly to Cambodia assuming you’re wanting to see Angkor watt. Plan on two night in Siem reap. Your full day for the temples and book a sunrise tour. There are MANY temples to see in and around Angkor wat and a tour is 100% worth it. We did a private tour but if you want to save some money a non private one is definitely cheaper. We did 12 days around Vietnam (north, central and southern) with two nights in Cambodia and it was very doable. Happy to share more details if you’d like more 🙂 I had tried to make a post but think it was too long for admin to approve 😅😳🫣

You are going to need a holiday to recover from this holiday.

A holiday should be more than doable. This is way too much planning. One of the nice things of traveling is meeting the unexpected… my advice: make up your mind and visit either Vietnam or Cambodia when you have just 1 week instead of spending a lot of time on transport.

It’s a vacation. You plan things out, but you will want to change things as you enjoy some parts more. Not a race. Lived in VN for 12 years. Will retire back there with my wife and enjoy a peaceful and fun life. Enjoy your trip. You will fall in love with the lifestyle there.

You obviously have a short amount of time available to visit the south of Vietnam.

I would definitely swap the bus for flights. That would give you more time in Siem Reap.

Everyone has different versions of holidays. The answer is yes it is doable…. But it’s extremely tight timing and if travel takes longer or unexpected delays your not leaving your self much time to see or do anything.

I lived in hcmc…nothing is really as short as they say it is. Traffic and construction eat hours as you travel, although the expressway to mui ne has made a 5 hour trip down to 2.5 hours or so…(again traffic is real) a more peaceful route might be hcmc- mui ne- and the bao loc or da lat highlands or choose to do an overnight in the mekong delta at a simple homestay. Cambodia a whole country. In terms of day trip, it really isn’t a great choice. Like someone said before, you could fly to siem reap or Phnom Penh. But you still would want 2 days at least there. Still, you will need hours at the airport and maybe a multi entry visa for vietnam (depending on your home country). You have to request a visa in advance to get on board your flight.
