Update** this post is a warning not a field to discuss my story ✌️I have all documents needed ( IDP, A license , Insurance, Rental contract, Helmet, day lights, Visa …) ⚠️ Travel Warning – Ha Giang Loop Police StopSharing my experience to help other travelers stay informed.📌Location : POLOCE CHECK POINT ,Quản Bạ, Tuyên Quang, Vietnam🕒 January 26th, 2026 – around 11 AMI was stopped by police while riding a Honda 110cc motorbike on the Ha Giang Loop. I showed both my Tunisian driving license and my International Driving Permit. My national license legally allows me to ride motorcycles up to **124cc**, so the international permit should cover the same category.Despite this, the officers took my keys and documents and claimed I was not allowed to drive the bike. They demanded **4,000,000 VND**. I realized something was wrong when they said *“If you pay, no one will stop you again.”*After bargaining, they accepted **2,000,000 VND**, gave no official ticket, and let me continue.Vietnam has been amazing overall, actually it’s the best country I’ve ever visited — I’m sharing this only to warn other travelers to know their rights, ask for an official receipt, and stay calm if something similar happens.

Lol, it’s normal! That road it’s not for anyone!
You are very lucky. You are driving illegally in Vietnam and they let you off very lightly. Be aware that your insurance is also void and will not cover you in case of accident.
Was planning to go there next April. 🤔
Just politely ask for a receipt and proof of their names and they will back down pretty quick
I sorry that’s bs you had to go through that. I wish you were able to report them or had a video.
Common things , Any proof mate? They’ll pay you a fortune to stay silent.
I never had a problem 3 times in 2 years. I got stopped but never fined. But I got stopped more in ha Giang than anywhere else in Vietnam. It was almost a daily thing. I was never held up for long and never asked for money.
This is a constant issue in this area
Around Ha Giang we were stopped about 5 or 6 times.
