My husband just asked what the toilet opportunities are like when out and about around in Vietnam? Is there plenty of public toilets in Hanoi, Hoi An, HCMC and Phu Quoc? We are also visiting Lan Ha bay and the Mekong Delta 👀🙈We are aware that it is recommended to bring own paper 👍

As others have said, just pop into a cafe (lots of them around). There are a few public toilets, but very few (you must take your shoes off to enter😂). Always good to have a wad of toilet paper in your bag or pocket. Not everywhere has paper, but they do have bum guns.
We always look for the chain hotels if out and about and in need, they generally have beautifully clean toilets in their lobby.
EMPTY your pockets BEFORE squatting. Items in your pockets will fall out into the toilet.
Not a lot of public bathrooms especially in smaller towns and rural areas best you can do is find a coffee shop or cafe thy usually have bathrooms and learn to go to bathroom when you eat meals an can use restaurant bathrooms
Lots of people advising to take toilet paper and wipes… If you do that please don’t flush them. Use hose and bin tissue
To be safe, bring along a potty.
I took a two day bus tour to the Mekong Delta. Whenever we were near a washroom our guide would tell us how long it would be until the next one.
We’re finishing up our trip now and have been impressed with the amount and general cleanliness of the toilets where we’ve been, particularly at tourist sights you’ll find s multitude of toilets. Only once or twice I’ve needed my own TP. I’d say carry a little in case. There was one time in Hanoi we couldn’t get to a toilet fast enough and a friendly guard out front a hotel let us use their staff one.
Vietnamese (men) will pee anywhere!
toilet in Vietnam are more roomy and cleaner than most European countries
