USD can be used or exchanged at hotels. Get dongs from ATM.

I bring some dong that I buy at home then use ATMs in Vietnam (my bank has aero overseas transaction fee so only fee is the Vietnam ATM fee). A lot of people use a Wise card.

All major currencies accepted. large bills 50 or 100 gets best rates. Better exchange in town at gold shops but only crisp new bills with no ink marks, creases, folds or tears accepted. Avoid airport exchanges as not as good as in town. TP and VP banks withdrawals no fees one is now charging 55,000 VND per withdrawal? Cannot remember which one. 5 million VND per withdrawal. Best SIM card is Viettel bought in town at a company store. I paid less than 10 dollars US for 30 days but cannot remember data cap as I do not use much. The SIM kiosks at the airport can be problematic with many having issues after purchase so only in town company stores. Be sure to load the Grab app for rides and avoid taxis at all costs.

Dong is accepted everywhere. You get ripped off with dollars. ATMs all over the place so easy to withdraw if you use revolut.
