Bring your own currency & exchange at gold shops or just change a little bit at the airport, plenty of atm,s here, if you change to usd then back to dong , you loose twice

I always check the current market rate before exchanging, and I’ve found that airports have the better rates. Current rate for $1 is 26,267 dongs. I got 26,150 at the airport on Monday. I use USD for exchange. Also, they prefer crisp $100 bills with no markings or tears.

I always bring a little cash, coz for some reason ATM’s do not always give money. For the same reason I have two creditcards, a Visa and a Mastercard. That saved me more than once.

I’m in Hanoi with plenty of ATMs which you need as they favour cash here more than any of the other places I’ve been which surprises me as it’s such an international city.

ATMs work fine but one machine might run out of cash forcing you to use a different machine. Always best to have a plan “B” so bring an extra card. Home currency is a nice plan “C” but exchange fees will eat you alive.

No need to bring cash. There are ATMs every few blocks. Just bring your card and with a couple hundred bucks worth at a time.
