Had a horrendous experience booking via Agoda. We booked & paid online and received a confirmation email that all was ok. We arrived in Nha Trang on Saturday night and when we arrived at the property they had no record of the booking. Agoda confirmed they had taken payment but not passed on the booking to the property owner. Two great security guards at the property (with excellent English) sat us down, logged us into the WiFi and gave tips on the areas we were considering. Agoda refunded our payment within 12 hours & gave a 20% credit on my account which will never be used as I’ve closed the account and deleted their app.

I used Hotels dot com back in 2017. Fast forward to Jan 2025, used Agoda for a hotel booking in Thailand. A week after returning, the buggers tried setting up recurring PayPal payments. I didn’t pay too much attention bc I was traveling but then realized i didn’t use Booking this time.
I’ve used Agoda for years and booked lots of hotels over the years. I have no doubt that the hotel might have played their usual games offering your room to other guests at higher rates because of TET new year. Vietnam hotels tend to do this dirty business by canceling customers room for better offered rates.
