Had a horrendous experience booking via Agoda. We booked & paid online and received a confirmation email that all was ok. We arrived in Nha Trang on Saturday night and when we arrived at the property they had no record of the booking. Agoda confirmed they had taken payment but not passed on the booking to the property owner. Two great security guards at the property (with excellent English) sat us down, logged us into the WiFi and gave tips on the areas we were considering. Agoda refunded our payment within 12 hours & gave a 20% credit on my account which will never be used as I’ve closed the account and deleted their app.

They made a mistake but give u quick refund. Cant complain .
Never had any problem with Agoda. Just bad luck. Why throw away 20% credit ? Thats crazy.
Booking baby, I started to look though that site and it kept freezing and i would start to book something then they would say it already booked. I just deleted it.
20 % credit is very unfair under this situation you mention, so you needed to claim for at least paying the difference to book another hotel of yout choice. Last week they emailed me about canceling a booking because of a “rate error” from the hotel. I am still 3 weeks away from my trip, and they offered me like like 20’usd credit for the inconvenience. It was not my fault, so i pushed them until they offered me 180 usd extras to book another property. Prices were higher of course, so its their responsability to assist
I booked and paid a deposit for a property in Hoi an with ‘Stayz’. When I got there 2 weeks ago. The place was all locked up with no one around. Couldn’t contact the owner. The taxi driver phoned around and found the property had been sold. The owner thought he could pocket the deposit $200. Stays refunded in full.
Do people have any luck with just booking directly with hotels/hostels? I see so many posts about scams on these booking sites
Or the property got a much better offer because it’s Tết. This is far more likely the case… I seriously doubt this is Agoda’s fault. Extremely common for bookings to be cancelled or declined for no reason around Tết. Agoda is a very reliable booking platform in Vietnam. The exact same thing happens with all of them.
So far I have had no problems with Agoda.
I almost slept in the streets here today, went to the hotel and i never found it, the host didn’t respond messages or cellphone, airbnb couldn’t contact the host either.
I always book with Agoda and booking but after I book I email the hotel directly and get them to confirm directly to me that they have my booking exactly for this reason, never had problems this way
