Can anyone tell me why the pizza here is phenomenal???? It’s much better than anything we have in the U.S. I have my own pizza oven so I’m pretty picky about my pizza. The pepperoni/margarita/quatro formaggi at Herbal Garden is amazing. To me, pepperoni is just pepperoni. It’s nothing special. But the pepperoni in Vietnam is sooooo flavorful. I was completely shocked at how good it was. The basil on the Margarita pizza tasted like it was picked that morning. The Quattro formagi was just straight up delicious.

LOL – lots of people buying into the myth that the greatest pizzas are made in Italy and that only Italians REALLY know what constitutes a great pizza. That’s urban myth based on silly national stereotypes. Anyone who’s been to Italy will know that the pizzas are not all great, and the great ones are no greater than a great one in any country. There are different styles, and as a now universal food pizza has long ago transcended its Italian background. Thus, regional adaptations in pizza-crazy places like the US have taken pizza to new places often over generations of ownership of the acclaimed pizza joints – and not only the US of course. I never had pizza in Vietnam so can’t comment on the OP’s claims, but I see no reason why the Vietnamese wouldn’t do great pizzas, like so many other countries. They have fantastic fresh ingredients and inherited a baking culture from the French which they subsequently ran with. I’d be surprised if they didn’t do great pizzas. Which BTW, can be found throughout much of SE Asia.
As a new yorker, this makes me happy
Because it’s wood fired made with love ..a few at a time …not mass produced and also local fresh greens and meat
