As a fellow viatnam traveler in Saigon I was sorry to see a homeless family with a little girl, staying on the steps of a building across the intersection from Ben thanh market, they did not ask, but I helped them out with some money, I am not asking or telling fellow tourist to do the same, but the family would sure appreciate some left over change, which Iam sure would help them and others like them with little kids begging in the area.

Bless you. I firmly believe it’ll come back to you tenfold. After awhile, you can tell who “hasn’t got much money” and who is really “dirt poor”.

We gave a small girl food in Beijing and she looked terrified. She kept looking at her mum. So we gave her some money too and she ran to a corner to eat it

Am here in Saigon right now, but based on my experience, it would be better to give food than cash. Same case in the Philippines. But am proud of your generosity 😊

I was told many times by kind people, or generous people that are living there NOT to give them money. You can buy foods and gave them. Many of those kids are being used by those people to bring money back to them. Its an organization. Some of those even buy children and decapitated either arm(s), leg(s), eye, etc. so that people can give money to them. In general, we care but do not support the pirates rob the lives of those children. In every countries are some what true.

Be cautious when giving to kids, they might not use it as intended. I had one whom asked for money. Told him no but will buy food for him. He didn’t want regular food but pick the most expensive cookie container that was there. Told him no since that is not nutritional. He then went to pick up the highest price for deodorant instead of food. At the end I buy him the cookie and a cold drink but I make sure the cookie was open so he can’t return it for money

Unfortunately they are using the children to tug on your heartstrings and it worked. This happens a lot in Mexico, I was in a touristy place, there were tiny kids, literally 2 and 3 years old asking for $ for selling a little toy. I happened to go to the toilet and saw the mothers were inside, handing out more toys to the kids, big bag of toys for the kids to sell to tourists. $1, $2 adds up. I agree buy them a drink or food, don’t give money, the kids are being used.

They from Cambodia. There’s nothing wrong when you helping poverty people. However, they’re abusing children to get mercy from other. When you give the kid money, the parents will never work. That’s why, you should give the kid food will be ok than. Thanks for your kindness with the poverty!
