I have an incoming international flight connecting to an onward domestic leg, all on one ticket with VN. Do I have to clear immigration and go landside for my connection, or is there a short cut that allows you to stay airside?

Greetings fellow travellers. My wife and I are seasoned travellers and love Asia having spent time in quite a few countries. Travelling to Vietnam in 3 weeks.Would love all your advise. Yes I am scared about the world but more about airline fuel. Need to check must dos at this point . Ie visas. I need some help/advice with booking overnight trains.
